Cuando me invitaron a dar una charla en un evento oficial de TED en Nueva York, cre\u00ed que ser\u00eda muy sencillo. Llevo ya muchos a\u00f1os platicando y reflexionando sobre el fracaso y (tras haber tomado clases de teatro por a\u00f1os), siempre me sent\u00ed c\u00f3moda hablando en p\u00fablico, as\u00ed que pens\u00e9 que ser\u00eda pan comido. Sin embargo, se torn\u00f3 m\u00e1s complicado de lo que pudiera haber imaginado, e incluso mucho m\u00e1s instructivo.<\/span><\/p>

Por varios d\u00edas vinieron muchas ideas a mi cabeza y tuve que descartarlas porque no eran suficientemente buenas, hasta que un d\u00eda, mis neuronas hicieron sinapsis y todo se volvi\u00f3 tan claro.<\/span><\/p>

Mi gran idea ya la hab\u00eda platicado en alguna ocasi\u00f3n con algunos emprendedores y con el equipo global de Fuckup Nights. Era algo que siempre estuvo ah\u00ed, pero que no hab\u00eda notado que ten\u00eda potencial: la importancia del failing mindfully, sin humillar a los que fracasan en los negocios.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

As\u00ed es, sin humillaci\u00f3n. Hace mucho tiempo, castigar p\u00fablicamente a emprendedores exitosos era com\u00fan: Si viajamos al pasado, al a\u00f1o 800 AC, en la antigua Grecia, forzaban a los mercaderes que fallaban a sentarse a la mitad del mercado sosteniendo una canasta sobre su cabeza. En la Italia pre moderna, los due\u00f1os de alg\u00fan negocio fallido y con enormes deudas, eran llevados completamente desnudos a las plazas p\u00fablicas a ser ser abucheados.<\/span><\/p>

In 17th\u00a0century, in France, failed businessmen were taken to the center of the market where the beginning of their bankruptcy was publicly announced. To avoid immediate imprisonment, they had to wear a green bonnet so that everyone knew they were a failure.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Del otro lado del espectro de los que humillan a la gente fracasada, est\u00e1n las comunidades en Silicon Valley, que se jactan con el concepto de \u201cfailing fast\u201d y en ocasiones como si no fuera la gran cosa.<\/span><\/p>

Yo creo que el mantra \"fail fast<\/strong>\" tiene un lado oscuro. Claro, \u201cfallar r\u00e1pido\u201d es una forma estupenda para acelerar el aprendizaje y evitar el perder tiempo, sin embargo, cuando le decimos a los emprendedores que deben fallar r\u00e1pido, tal vez estamos promoviendo la mediocridad. Adem\u00e1s, esta cultura puede minimizar las devastadoras consecuencias del fracaso en un negocio en la vida real.<\/span><\/p>

Por ejemplo, cuando mi empresa social fracas\u00f3, la peor parte fue buscar la manera de ir a las comunidades ind\u00edgenas y decirle a los artesanos que el proyecto hab\u00eda muerto, y que fue mi culpa. No fue s\u00f3lo una oportunidad de aprendizaje para mi, fue una p\u00e9rdida de ingreso para esas mujeres que realmente lo necesitaban.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Es por eso que decid\u00ed proponer en mi charla de TED, que pusi\u00e9ramos de lado la idea de humillar p\u00fablicamente a los emprendedores, que debemos tambi\u00e9n desechar la idea de que el \u201cfailing fast\u201d es siempre la mejor opci\u00f3n. Decid\u00ed proponer un nuevo mantra:\u00a0Fail mindfully.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

Hay que recordar que los negocios est\u00e1n hechos de personas<\/strong>, los negocios no son entidades que aparecen y desaparecen m\u00e1gicamente sin consecuencias.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Cuando un negocio fracasa, hay gente que pierde sus trabajos e incluso todo su dinero. Y en el caso de empresas sociales o verdes, hay comunidades o ecosistemas que sufren la muerte de un proyecto.<\/span><\/p>

\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa Fail mindfully? Significa estar consciente del impacto que tiene cerrar un negocio, estar\u00a0estar consciente de las lecciones aprendidas<\/strong>\u00a0and being aware of the\u00a0y de la responsabilidad que hay en compartir<\/strong>\u00a0those learnings with the world.<\/span><\/p>
